A History of The Ruthin Show
|
The 122nd Annual Ruthin Flower Show
will take place on Saturday August 14th, 2010 at the Ruthin Farmers Auction Site in Ruthin.
The first ever Ruthin Flower Show was held in the summer of 1887. Ruthin Castle was the venue for the first shows, but as
the show became more and more popular the Ruthin Show Society moved what became known as the "Best One Day Show in North
Wales" to the Castle Park, known locally as Cae Ddol.

"Through Bleak Times and Adversity"
|
The Ruthin Flower Show is still a fantastic day for all ages, but it has also had it's bleak times. During the late 1980's
problems of support and finance saw a much smaller indoor show. However by 1991 due to a revived and enthusiastic committee
the Show was rebuilt and in 1992 returned to Cae Ddol. In that same year the decision was made to merge the Ruthin Flower
Show with the Ruthin Carnival. This marriage of two great events has been a huge success and further enhances the true
community spirit behind the day.
|
"Into the New Millennium"
|
In 1999 the President of the Society, Mrs. E. Vosper, and members of the Ruthin Show Society planted a 16ft Red Oak Tree to mark the Millennium. It also marked more than 100
years of the show.
Apart from a handful of occasions - 2001 being one due to the Foot and Mouth Crisis, and 2007 due to personal circumstances - the Annual Ruthin Flower Show has been enjoyed by many each year. Nowadays as many as 5,000 people have visited Cae Ddol on the third Saturday in August to watch,
participate in and enjoy the Show.
2004 saw the decision by the committee to add a web presence for the show, widening the possible audience of the
show and bringing it firmly into the 21st Century.
Due to unforeseen circumstances the show was cancelled in 2007, but was back with a vengeance in 2008, boasting a new venue.
For many years the Ruthin Flower Show was held in the beautiful greenery of Cae
Ddol. Since 2008, however, the show has been held to wide acclaim at our new
venue, the Ruthin Farmers Auction Site in Ruthin, where it continues to provide
Ruthin and beyond with the perfect family day out.
